Great analysis.
For years I have been interested in the Mafia. It’s why the Godfather (one and two, not three) and Goodfellas are three of my favorite movies. I think my real fascination with the Mafia and why I watch those movies and read books about the La Cosa Nostra has less to do with the violence and more to do with the historical and political context of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’. I am a history buff and the twist and turns that play out in these stories is always set against a backdrop of what was happening in American at that particular time.
But this fascination or interest has also provided me with a little knowledge about the Mafia. It might come in handy during a trivia board game or for an episode of Jeopardy but otherwise it is pretty useless information. Until Trump was elected president.
