A Good Day to Remember Sherri Finkbein

I was only two when this happened, so I don’t remember this as a current event but I do remember hearing about this in one of my Women’s Studies classes that I took as a freshman at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1979. I remember being shocked that anyone would vilify this woman for making this decision, especially since it was proved that the child was, indeed, severely deformed. One thing I have learned about the anti-choice movement is their utter lack of compassion for the mother & for the child they claim to be “saving”. Sometimes, not bringing a child into the world is the best decision you can make for that child. But only the mother & her doctor can make this decision.

Remember the hearings for Trump’s Supreme Court nominees?  Remember when asked, each of them said that Roe is “settled law” and has been for 50 years and each vowed they had “no agenda?”  Remember when the female Senators from Alaska and Maine believed them and voted for their elevation to SCOTUS?  Well according to a draft opinion leaked today and published in Politico, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Coney Barret are joining Alito and the hack Thomas, whose wife is a fascist who tried to overturn democracy in America, to overturn Roe.

We knew these good Catholic kids would do it  -all along.  It’s not a surprise.  Just a shock.  The day is here and no longer a secret.  Chief Justice John Roberts is soon to be elevated to the level of Justice Taney – worst in American history.

in the neck (again)

I just want to say this right at the start: fuck you, Sam Alito. Fuck you in the neck.

I was going to write a few paragraphs describing the role of SCOTUS draft opinions, because that’s important. I was also going to natter on about how Comrade Trump and the GOP have gutted the integrity of the Supreme Court. And I thought about saying something about unenumerated rights in the Constitution. All that stuff is important and deserves to be discussed. But mostly I just want to say why Justice Sam Alito should go fuck himself.

First off, he writes this: “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” Obviously, I disagree. But that’s not why Alito should go fuck himself. I mean, I disagree with lots of folks about lots of things. Believing Roe was wrongly decided is a valid opinion even though I happen to think it’s stupid.

Saturday Caturday

I got my second shingles vaccination yesterday & I’ve been feeling pretty lousy. I slept most of yesterday. I had the chills & I felt like I had a mild case of the flu. Today I felt a little better but I was still very cold, even though it was a sunny day here in Buffalo & really quite warm … it got up to 61 degrees. I did manage to mow the front lawn, which really needed it. If the rain holds off tomorrow, I’ll mow the back yard.

Robins have a nest in the awning over the back windows in my study.

I know it isn’t easy to see the nest but I didn’t want to go outside to take the picture because I didn’t want to bother the birds.

Of course Radar is always at the window chattering away at the birds. The robins are aware of him inside of the window & they aren’t happy about him. But Radar gets bored & eventually, he goes away & sleeps in one of his favorite spots.
